Short Film Festival

It's time to learn how to Write, Shoot and Edit and Direct a Short Film...
The goal of this project is to include characters, plot, a specific genre, to tell a story...

Steps: 
Build your Team - Have a Production Meeting
Decide your Story, Characters, Genre
Sign up for a job - commit to that job for a LAB GRADE
List all of this info on a document: Film Proposal Grade:  DUE WEDNESDAY Oct 30.
Write a Treatment - Due ASAP or Nov 1st - Write a Script - Due Friday Nov 1st
Set up new Project Folders on your Mac. VIDEO; YOUR BLOCK; Short Film Nov_21; Video  and Music.
Film scenes using 2 cameras from different angles:
Competition ONLY: Include Specific Character Name, Line & Prop in film
Copy ALL Clips from SD Card to VIDEO > YOUR BLOCK > Short Film Nov_21> Video
Download Royalty Free Music from YouTube Audio Library or HEREhttps://www.jeadigitalmedia.org/royalty-free-music-and-audio-for-video-production/
Download and Use free Sound Effects here: http://soundbible.com/
Edit film to 5-7 minutes for a Product Grade

Competition ONLY: (5 minutes MAX) DUE FRI NOV 8th end of the school day
Project Grade only: (7 minutes MAX)  Due Thursday Nov. 21st  
Film Fest in class Screening Friday Nov 22 - Bring your popcorn!

Studio Newscast Training...

Finished with Feature News Package? Export it properly and copy to a flash drive (see instructions on Kuhn's desk)

Join forces with another team and ask to get trained on studio and control room. Get their segment copied to your same flash drive.
You need 8 people. Choose one and complete one of the following jobs for a Lab Grade:

Producer - calls the shots
Anchor 1 - reads the script on camera
Anchor 2 - same for the other camera
Teleprompter - scrolls the script from Control room
Video Director - mixes the video inputs (Cameras, Segment playback, Graphics)
Audio Director - mixes the sound inputs (mics, music, etc)
Camera Operator - Sets up Focus, Operates Zoom, Frames the shot
Camera Operator - same for other camera

This is a Newscast show. Electronic News Gathering

Electronic News Gathering: 
Produce a 1:45 - 2:00 Field News Package 
 Teams: Complete News Ch. 9-11 Study packet in class first.

This package is an actual news story (not mock or fake) covering a Wheeler sport, class activity or club. It's filmed out of class or in the 'field' led by a Reporter to be edited for playback during a newscast. 

Elements Required: 
a Wheeler Activity as your topic and one person serving as Reporter - (not two)
External microphone, lighting device (tripod optional if you are steady handheld camera)
A Roll - Reporter Interviews with key people also called SOT (Sound on tape)
B Roll - Action shots of activity
Lower 3rd  Titles in lower third of screen that are name tags for people speaking
Lead - Reporter Intro Fact that kicks off the story 
V/O - Reporter provides additional facts that become a Voiceover
Outro - Reporter closes the story w/last item of info + 'Reporting for Wildcat TV, I'm [Name]'

In class, your team completes Ch. 6 packet using the textbook to learn more. We'll have a written quiz in class for a test grade for this unit.

Project Assignment: Your team will choose a Wheeler topic about which you will produce a news story. Your News Story will utilize interviews - known as A Roll or Sound bites in the news industry. You must demonstrate:

1. An ability to design questions that will collect interesting answers about your topic 
2. Proper use of an external microphone to collect high quality sound
